Hey, there - Iowa here.
Been raining and 35 for a few hours - temps gonna drop and it'll turn to snow through the night.
Gotta go out, so what should I drive? Hills to consider, too. Weigh in!

From what I here, a car with winter tires will always be better then anything with "all seasons" or no seasons as what they really are, lol. Just put the Blizzaks on the Forester and pull semi's out of the snow ;)

on the FP a few weeksa ago there was literally a vid of a M3 / blizzaks and a forester /as. the forest lost. badly.

winter tires always better than all seasons in snow, no matter how many wheel drive. Getting you moving won't help you turn or stop when it's slick.

Should factor in ride height, though, since we're looking at 7-10+ inches last I checked.
Side note: where in IA? I'm in the W'loo/Cedar Falls area.

Blizzaks > no- all-seasons, regardless of drivetrain.

Hey, there! I'm in CR, but I commute in the M3 everyday to CF.

I own both. Depends on the condition and quality of your tires. M3 with old snows is a tad bit worse then the forester with high quality newish all seasons. Plus don't forget to factor in other bad drivers that could hit your m3.

Good to see some other IA oppos. Work in CF? I commute to Waverly every day.

The better driver will win regardless. But in the case of the same driver, AWD will probably have a slight advantage off of the line, but after that, acceleration, braking, and cornering all should go to the car with better traction, which would be the M3 - again, presuming a competent driver.

I drive my M3 all the time in snowy cold winnipeg. No problems at all with blizzaks.

Wasn't it on summer tires? They were really just trying to prove the point that number of driven wheels doesn't matter without the right tires.
Also, there's a video of winter vs all season tires on the same cars, which was what I have been wanting to see for a long time.

i'm pretty sure it was on AS, to prove that exact point that they are useless in the snow
